VGK-Go! and Osseointegration
A Bone Anchor Prosthesis is the generic name for procedures such as Osseointegration or Endo-Exo system. Some of these systems use a failsafe device to limit the maximum torque placed on the distal bone. If a situation arose, such a failsafe would disengage the connection between the limb and the bone, to limit the impact of the situation and help prevent bone fracture. The assessment of a requirement to use a separate failsafe is the responsibility of the prescribing clinic.
The VGK is fully compatible with osseointegrated prostheses.
Compared to CPU knees, the VGK-Go! has a big advantage: patient is NOT LIMITED by battery charge. All its unique self-adjustable functionality is energy independent.
A patient with osseointegrated prosthesis has heightened perception of all forces effecting on the prosthesis due to a nature of the implant. The VGK-Go! has a big advantage: it has LOW TERMINAL IMPACT, no matter what speed patient is walking at.
On top of all this, the VGK-Go! can be flexed up to 178 DEGREES.
A use of the VGK-Go! with a Bone Anchor Prosthesis abutment was found to be helpful in the large knee flexion angle possible, which reduces the potential large bending moment on the distal femur, that could occur when a knee flexion stop would suddenly interrupt a knee bending action.
Worth taking note of as an intermediary implant technology is the provision of an internal end-of-bone implant.
